This morning I am waking up realizing that in one week, 7 days, 168 short hours my family and I will be boarding a plane heading to a country in which we have never lived, with only the clothes in our bags and forever our lives will be changed. It’s a bit crazy to think that back in October, when my wife and I felt God was calling us to sell everything and move to Huddersfield, UK, we thought 5 months was going to be a long time. How quickly 5 months turns into 7 days. No longer do we look at the trip as a long way off. Now we are fighting for every minute we have here in Las Vegas, the place where we were born and raised. Time has now sped up and we are finding ourselves in a literal crunch time. In crunch time you start to figure out what is important. The fact is we have an exact time that our plane is leaving and we must be on it. The move is going to be exciting. It is going to be strenuous. We are going to grow tremendously and see things we have never seen before. All the while we will be earnestly seeking the Lord with every part of our being. I can’t wait to see all the new things that God is going to teach us. It will be amazing.
This week my wife reminded me of these verses out of Philippians:
Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:4-7 (NKJV)
She reminded me how on our adventure we shouldn’t be anxious for anything but instead let’s be thankful for what God has constantly done for us. The amazing thing about that is when we live this way it is the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, that guards our hearts and minds. Let me tell you, from first hand experience, I need that peace and I need my heart and mind guarded. They are very good at becoming anxious. So through this next week and into our adventure, I am deciding to rejoice in what God is doing and what He has given us. God is so generous and is already working on our behalf 5000 miles away in Huddersfield. I am enjoying the time I get to spend with my friends here this week and look forward to the new friends and new miracles we are going to experience in the UK. This will be one short week, but one that we will remember forever.
